The null and alternative hypotheses for a hypothesis test of the difference in two population means are:

Null Hypothesis:

Alternative Hypothesis:

Notice that the alternative hypothesis is a two-tailed test. Suppose ttest_ind method from scipy module is used to perform the test and the output is (-1.99, 0.0512). What is the P-value for this hypothesis test? Select one.

Answer #1

As we are testing here whether there is a significant difference between two population means, therefore this is a two tailed test here. The null and the alternative hypothesis here are given as:

H_0: \mu_1 = \mu_2

H_a: \mu_1 \neq \mu_2

We are given the output for the ttest_ind method from scipy module as:
(-1.99, 0.0512)

The second value of the tuple gives the p-value for the test. Therefore 0.0512 is the required p-value here.
