Television survey

1. Ho: = 4

It was stated that Americans watch television on an average four hours per day so the Ho is as stated above. Please note that null hypothesis Ho is always a hypothesis of no difference i.e. Ho always contains equality sign.

2. Ha: < 4.

We have to conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the average of students at school is lower hence the Ha is as stated above. Note that, what researcher wants to test or researcher's claim is alternative hypothesis.

3. In words, random variable is defined as

X= Number of hours an American watches television on a day.

4. The distribution to use for the test is standard normal distribution.

We want to test for the mean of one sample and the population standard deviation is known hence we will use standard normal distribution.
