Gallium arsenide (GaAs), which is also a updated version of Silicon. Optical devices usually operates at higher frequency, which makes GaAs an ideal fit for optical devices owing to its wider energy-band gap, wider bandwidth and insensitivity to heating.

Other than GaAs, Si, Ge and B are in pure form which are also used in optical devices. GaAs a composition of Zinc blend is superior than the three.
