In Australia or incidents of whistleblowing
2 examples of incidents of whistleblowing in Australia are as follows:
In a very recent report of 21st September, 2020 in New South Wales area, the Guardian reported "contaminated soil used to make ‘turf underlay’ at Oran Park site, a development of 25,000 homes". Asbestos-contaminated waste has been dumped at one of Sydney’s newest building projects after having been passed off as safe landscaping, according to whistleblowers. Guardian Australia has spoken to multiple people who have revealed that contaminated soil was processed into a product known as “turf underlay” then taken to at least one new suburb, Oran Park, which will eventually be home to 25,000 households near Camden on Sydney’s south-west fringe. One council waste inspector told the Guardian he had inspected a site that he suspected contained dumped asbestos. It was confirmed that material containing asbestos was present but he was subsequently summoned to a disciplinary hearing by his council, which accused him of failing to follow proper procedures. He has since left their employment.
In an incident dated 20th August, 2020, ABC News reported "AMP whistleblower 'bullied, victimised and silenced' over sexual harassment complaint, Parliament told". AMP is an Australian financial services company headquartered in Sydney. AMP "bullied, victimised and ultimately silenced" a junior female employee turned whistleblower, who alleges she suffered repeated sexual harassment at the hands of two men at the company — one of whom was her direct manager. This included being sent sexually explicit photos and emails, constant physical groping and having to endure a man rubbing his genitals against her at a work function. The company promoted one of the two men involved instead of treating her claim seriously, according to the whistleblower's statement which was read out on Tuesday night in Federal Parliament by Labor senator Deborah O'Neill.
