Choose one of the following graphs and in detail, explain why the graph is misleading.
1. Graph from Fox News
1. Graph from Fox News:
The vertical (y-axis) does not start at 0. This gives misleading visual impression that bars 2 and 3 are very much insignifiant as compared to bar 1. If the vertical scale starts at 0 it will be clear that bars 2 and 3 are of course smaller than bar 1 but not to that extent.
3. Graph from CNN:
The vertical axis is not marked. Values o feach bar is just written on each bar. Bar heights are not in proportional to their values. So this is misleading.

Graph can be misleading! Distorting the truth unfortunately does happen within the field of Statistics through distorting data. Some graphs are misleading and other deceive! The misrepresentation may be intentional or purely innocent on the behalf of the researcher/statistician. When reviewing graphs, it is important to have an eye for characteristics that may manipulate the facts and in turn the data. For example, incorrect depiction of size of graphics. Please review a few graphs from a local newspaper, magazine or...
please do all of them Find and post a link to an example of a misleading or deceptive graph that you found on the internet. Please make sure to include the following in your post: A link to the graph Two or more ways in which it is misleading Two things that could be done to improve the graph Describe why you think the graph was made this way originally (trying to "trick" the reader into thinking a certain thing,...
The Graph Game Choose one of the graphs listed below. On a separate sheet of graph paper, sketch the derivative of this graph. Make sure you remember what you've learned about local maxima, local minima, and concavity while you draw your graph. Every point on the derivative graph should correspond to the slope of the original function. Give your piece of graph paper with the derivative sketch to your partner group when you are done.
