Answer #1

The map distance is 22 cM can be calculated from the frequency of cross overs.

Here , Total gametes=381,

Yellow & Round=3, White & oblong=295, Yellow &oblong= 73, White & Round = 10.

We know, first two are normal gametes (as they are dominant and recessive) while the rest two are cross over gametes.

Therefore,

Frequency of the cross over gametes= number of crossover gametes divided by total number of gametes= 83/381 = 22 cM

Same way for semi-fertile,

Total gamete= 369

Frequency of crossover gamete= 82/369 = 22 cM

the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, an allele (v) of the gene vermillion gives flies purple eyes and is recessive to the wildtype red eye color (v+). An allele y of the yellow gene, gives flies a yellow body color compared to the dominant brown body color (yt). A heterozygous females for the two different mutations is test-crossed with mutant (i.e., homozygous recessive) males. The phenotypes of the progeny of this cross and their corresponding numbers are given below Yellow body,...

A plant called blue-eyed grass normally produces blue flowers. However, plants producing white flowers also occur, because an allele for the gene coding for the protein that produces the blue pigment is non-functional. This white-flowered allele (W) is dominant to the blue-flowered allele (w), but generally occurs at very low frequency in populations. Suppose you crossed a homozygous dominant plant with a homozygous recessive plant, and the result is 16 seeds. If you plant these, assuming simple Mendelian genetics, how...

The F1 plants are testcrossed and the following offspring were produced: 149 shrunken, colored, 4035 shrunken, colorless, 152 plump, colorless and 4032 plump, colored. a. In mice, the dominant allele Gs of the X-linked gene Greasy produces shiny fur, while the recessive wild type Gs+ allele determines normal fur. The dominant allele Bhd of the X-linked Broadhead gene causes skeletal abnormalities including broad heads and snouts, while the recessive wild-type Bhd+ allele yields normal skeletons. Female mice heterozygous for the two alleles of both genes were mated with wild-type males. Among 100 male progeny of this cross, 49 had shiny fur, 48 had skeletal abnormalities,...

In cucumbers, dull fruit (D) is dominant over glossy fruit (d), orange fruit (R) is dominant over cream fruit (r), and bitter cotyledons (B) are dominant over non-bitter cotyledons (b). The three characters are encoded by genes located on different pairs of chromosomes. A plant homozygous for dull, orange fruit and bitter cotyledons is crossed with a plant that has glossy, cream fruit and non-bitter cotyledons. The F1 are intercrossed to produce the F2. a. Give the phenotypes and their...

In Grove snails, gene A codes for the production of black pigment. The dominant allele A blocks the production of black pigment, leaving the shell yellow. Pigment is only produced in homozygote recessive aa. A second gene, D, controls where pigment is deposited, with the dominant allele D restricting pigment deposition to a narrow striped area (see Fig. at right). Genotype dd leads to uniform pigment deposition across the shell. Following several dihybrid crosses (AaDd × AaDd), the ratio of...
