Question

5. Double stranded DNA consists of two long strands. An adenine on one strand is always paired to a thymine on the opposite strand and a guanine on one strand is always paired to a cytosine on the opposite strand. If a purified DNA has 36% thymine, what are the percentages of the other bases? 6. A solution has 10 ug/L of enzyme X, how much enzyme X is in each of the following amounts of solution. a. 100mL b, 50 mL 10 HL d. 100 uL 7. How many micromoles are there in 22.1 mg of NAD, (FW NAD 663.4g/mol) note: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is organic compound important in metabolism?

Answer #1

36% Thymine

Since Thymine base pair with adenine, therefore, 36% Adenine

Rest 28% are Guanine and cytosine, hence 14% Guanine and 14% cytosine.

Since 1 L contain 10ug of X enzyme, therefore, 100ml contain 1ug of X

50ml contain 0.5ug of X

10ul contain 10-5ug of X

100ul contain 10-4 ug of X

7. 1 mole conatin 663.4g

therefore, 1 gm contain 1/663.4mole

22.1gm conatin 1/663.4(22.1)mole

i.e. 0.033mole are present

Select the phrases that accurately describe properties of the most common form of the DNA double helix. There is more than one correct answer. Select all that apply. DNA contains equal amounts of adenine and thymine, and equal amounts of cytosine and guanine. A helical turn consists of about 10 nucleotides. Base pairs have a spacing of 20 A. The phosphodiester bonds between nucleotide residues run in opposite directions in the two strands. The nitrogenous bases are exposed to the solvent, whereas the sugar-phosphate backbone of...
