A particle of mass 4.5 × 10-8 kg and charge +11 μC is traveling due east. It enters perpendicularly a magnetic field whose magnitude is 3.1 T. After entering the field, the particle completes one-half of a circle and exits the field traveling due west. How much time does the particle spend in the magnetic field?

Answer #1

m = mass of the particle = 4.5 x 10-8 kg

q = charge = 11 x 10-6 C

B = magnetic field = 3.1 T

Time period of half circle is given as

T = \pim/(qB)

T = 3.14 (4.5 x 10-8)/((11 x 10-6) (3.1))

T = 0.00414 sec
