Answer #1

Answer- A friend of mine, Abby, is obese and does not consider herself to be obese. On days she would starve herself and on some days she would binge eat all day long. She would exercise for two days and would be mad at not seeing instant results. On some occasions she would constantly ask all of us if she had lost any weight, if we would say no she would be upset the entire day and also, binge eat the entire day. Her diet mostly includes junk, deep-fried foods with little to no existence of fruits, veggies and source of protein. When we tried talking to her about her weight and her unhealthy lifestyle, she took it too personally and got offended. Upon talking to her one day, I realised that Abby was bullied as a kid, and to suppress the hurt she would binge eat all day.

This habit of hers has become stronger over the years. Abby resorts to food for comfort, and while doing so she tends to go overboard with it. She has developed an unhealthy relationship with food where she sees food as her enemy. She also sees herself as the enemy, someone who is unworthy and unattractive because of her weight. She lacks self-love and self-esteem.

Step 1-In order to overcome this, Abby must first address her self-hate and dig deep into her soul to understand why she does what she does. This is a huge part of letting go and overcoming her demons. She has to forgive herself for being ungrateful to her body.

Step 2- Abby should gradually incorporate healthy foods into her diet and consider healthy eating as an act of self-love.

Step 3- Abby should start mild exercising, going for a walk/jog. Meditating and practising yoga.

Step 4- Abby should let go of her preconceived thoughts about herself, she should get rid of her old clothes in order to start afresh.
