1. As we heat water, actually we are giving some energy to its molecules in the form of heat and this given energy increase the vibrational energy of the molecule and finally at some stage hydrogen bonding between water molecules broke down and the molecules are set free to leave the surface I.e. for evaporation. As a result water changes into water vapour.

2. Liquid water molecules escaping from the surface enter into the vapour phase formed above the surface as a result of evaporation of water.

3. Boiling occurs when vapour pressure is equal to the external pressure applied.The point at which the vapour pressure is equal to the external pressure is called as boiling point .

4. Actually distillation is based on the boiling point of compound . If any compound have low boiling point, it will distill first and being collected. The compound having boiling point higher than this will be collected separately after its distillation. Hence we can say that distillation is a purifying technique.

5. If one compound is volatile and other is nonvolatile then the volatile will be distilled and the non volatile one will remain in the flask.
