Answer #1

(I am helping you with Q4)

(a)

Ho: The proportion of white respondents who support the tactic is the same as that of black respondents who support the tactic (p1 = p2)

Ha: The proportion of white respondents who support the tactic is significantly less than that of black respondents who support the tactic (p1 < p2)

(b)

n1 = 1799, n2 = 1001, p1 = 0.34, p2 = 0.41

α = 0.05

Reject Ho if z < -1.645

Average proportion, p = (n1p1 + n2p2)/(n1 + n2) = (1799 * 0.34 + 1001 * 0.41)/(1799 + 1001) = 0.36503

q = 1 - p = 1 - 0.36503 = 0.6350

SE = √[pq * {(1/n1) + (1/n2)}] = √(0.365025 * 0.634975 * ((1/1799) + (1/1001))) = 0.0190

z = (p1 - p2)/SE = (0.34 - 0.41)/0.0190 = -3.687

p- value = 0.0001

Since -3.687 < -1.645 we reject Ho and accept Ha

There is sufficient evidence that the proportion of white respondents who support the tactic is significantly less than that of black respondents who support the tactic
