Describe Group Policy object and why would an organization choose to deploy Group Policy? Explain some of the settings within Group Policy that organizations might choose to keep their desktops and servers secure.
Group Policy Object:
1. Group Policy object is a set of system settings that can be a
limitation on accessing the site or domain, imposing local
policies.
2. This Group Policy object is created generally Microsoft
Mangement Console Group Policy Editor.
Why Organisation deploys it:
1. Management: These group policies ease the process whenever new
user comes into the organization. Hence, providing a standardized
way of imposing the policies to new user as that user only needs to
be added in that group.
2. Control: Administration can control other user's systems.
Installing and imposing new policies become easy as administrator
need not go with each system and make the required changes.
3.Password Protection: Group Policy Object gives us a mechanism to
protect the password by maintaining the rules like length rule
etc.
Settings:
1. Restricting of Installing of Software: Admins keep the
restriction on installing the software up to a certain limit so
that the user doesn't install unwanted software.
2. Not allowing Removable devices like CD, DVD, etc: These devices
are very prone to infection and hence, can affect the complete
network. Thus, administrators put a restriction on this.
3. Not allowing Guest Account: To prevent the security for the
data, the system doesn't allow the guest account to log in. For
example, the system will not allow any other user other than an
organisation user to login to the laptop or desktop given by the
organization to the user.
4. Setting Password Rules: So, to secure the system, the password
should be such that it is not easy to guess. So, different rules
are made to prevent password guessing.
