Reading: Why Data Analytics Now? In this reading, the authors identify some of the reasons why data analytics has become so important for organizations. Think about your organization/industry. Do you think there is hype in your organization/industry around the importance of data analytics OR do you think it is not giving enough importance to it? Personally speaking, I would like to cite my experience from my workplace. The company that I work for is a multinational publishing company headquartered in Amsterdam. The company publishes scholarly journals. There are more than 1000 journals and the different types of journals are science, technology, medical, health-science, business journals, etc.

Data Analytics play a highly important role in my organization. Since there are myriad data sets, specialized software and systems are used to process the data. The data is analyzed and major business decisions are taken. One major business decision that was taken through Data Analytics is the increase in the publication speed. Traditionally, an article would take about 28 days to publish it in a journal. However, the business decision was to increase the publication speed. Now, the articles are published with few days of acceptance of the article for production. The article is cited online which has journal volume number and page number for reference. This was made possible through analysis of the data sets which made the management to understand that there is considerable delay in the article’s publication which are in the backlogs. Each article’s movement in the production stages; time taken to publish a journal, production backlogs, article backlogs are some of the data sets that were analyzed by the senior management and the project team.
