Exercise 1.1: Find a primary scientific research article

Title: Cross-Tissue Identification of Somatic Stem and Progenitor Cells Using a Single-Cell RNA-Sequencing Derived Gene Signature.

______________________________________________________________________________

Citation: The scientific research paper is located:

Journal name: Year : 16 October 2017

Issue # (if applicable) : 04 December 2017

Volume # (if applicable) 35 _______________________________________________________

Page # 2390-2402

Exercise 1.2: Citation

  1. Identify the first author(s) (it is authors if there is a reference to "equal contributing authors") and the principle investigator (the person who leads the research program).

The first author (s)___________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________

   The principle investigator _____________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________

  1. Identify affiliation for the first author (s) and for the principle investigator

The first author (s) _________________________________________________________

   ________________________________________________________________________

The principle investigator ___________________________________________________

Exercise 1.3: Abstract

  1. Is the abstract organized in the traditional way with four major parts?

Yes_____ No_____

  1. Does the abstract depart from tradition? If so, describe how it is different. If not, what are the four major parts? In your own words provide one descriptive sentence which is specific to your article for each part of the abstract.

Exercise 1.4: Introduction

  1. Why did the author (s) conduct the research?

  1. What was the hypothesis, prediction, or objective of this study?

  1. Was there enough background information given for you identify and understand the question (s) or problem (s) that will be addressed by the research? Yes______ No____________

Explain your answer thoroughly (What do you need to know to understand the questions- what was or was not described?)

Exercise 1.4: Results and Conclusions

  1. Write a paragraph describing the researcher’s results. Be specific- give numbers and facts. Don’t simply say “the found a bigger of this than this”. How much bigger- was it significant?

2. Choose one of the experimental methods used to support a key finding of the paper. Do some research on the method. Describe how the method is used in general. What can it be used to tell the investigator? Briefly describe how it is performed.. How was in used in this paper to test the hypothesis?

Exercise 1.5: Discussion

  1. Do the data support the author’s conclusions? Which findings were used to support specific conclusion(s) and why do such findings support this conclusion (rather than some other conclusion) Specifically link three results with the conclusion they support.

  1. Do the results and conclusions support or differ from the original hypothesis? Explain your answer.

3. What does the author suggest is the major contribution of this study?

4. What questions remain for further research?

Exercise 1-6: Related literature

Find two other papers closely related to the topic of the one you chose. Proved the correct complete citation for each paper.

Describe the search strategy you used to find these papers (Databases used, key words etc)

Describe how the findings of this paper relate to those in your paper. Did their result confirm, contrast, or extend the findings in your original paper? How?

( this assignment that you write base on my own article that I will write details in page 1 and here (Cross-Tissue Identification of Somatic Stem and Progenitor Cells Using a Single-Cell RNA-Sequencing Derived Gene Signature) this is the article that you cite question answer base on this article and this article I found oil pubmed website when you are go to this website click on bottom this (DOI 10.1002/stem.2719) that open the whole article and do the question answer.

Exercise 1.3: Abstract

1. No. Abstract is not organised in traditional way. That it does not include the brief introduction, methodology, Finding and conclusion.

2. The abstract of the above article highlighted, why study is conducted and what was the major finding of the study.

Exercise 1.4: Introduction

1. The above study is conducted, to identify the feature of the multipotent somatic stem and progenitor cells (SSPCs) that could guide their system-independent identification. Authors of this article claimed that the population-based transcriptomic studies fail to identify the features that would provide a definite answer, given the rarity and heterogeneous nature of these cells. In present study the authors  exploited the resolving power of single-cell RNA-sequencing to develop a computational model that is able to accurately distinguish SSPCs from differentiated cells across tissues.

2. Objective of the study

Exploitation of the resolving power of single-cell RNA-sequencing to develop a computational model to distinguish the   SSPCs from differentiated cells across tissue.
