This is an unknown organic compound.

As what you can see in the picture, its light brown or near to gray color. Its solid, but not powder, it is almost a little piece of solid.

The odor of it is almost no smell or a little bit of smell of wood. The flaming for this compound is just normal yellow fire, and there is nosooty.

The m.p. of it is around 113.7~115.8 ??

This solid is insoluble in none of water, NaOH, HCl.

When I do the Nitrogen test, I used the alkaline sodium clear filtrate from sodium Fusion procedure, and adding a drop of KF and heat it up,then acidify it. For the result I get a dark blue solution, but there is not a obviously presipitate, so I think there is no N in this compound( Am I right?).

And in thest for Halogens, I am sure it has Cl in this compound.

So, Please tell me the what is the name of that compound in this pic.

    1. Procedure A. Lithium 2,6-dimethylphenoxide. In a 300-ml. flask, equipped with a magnetic stirrer and a reflux condenser and flushed with nitrogen, are placed 150 ml. of toluene (freshly distilled from sodium), 1.40 g. (0.202 mole) of lithium metal (Note 1) and 25.0 g. (0.205 mole) of resublimed 2,6-dimethylphenol. The mixture is heated under reflux with stirring for 36 hours; a nitrogen atmosphere is maintained for the reflux period (Note 2). The condenser is replaced by a distillation head with...
