A. Energy demands of the cell - it does not determine what happens to pyruvate. So, it is incorrect.
B. 15% concentrated power of will- it is incorrect as power of will does not determine the fate of pyruvate.
C. pH of the intracellular fluid- it is incorrect as pH of intracellular fluid does not determine the fate of pyruvate.
D. Presence/absence of oxygen- it is correct as presence or absence of oxygen determines the fate of pyruvate.

If oxygen is there then pyruvate enters mitochondria and begins the kreb's cycle and if oxygen is not there then lactic acid is produced in the cytoplasm.

So, the correct answer is D.
