Answer #1

Question 1

Answer

CH3-CH2-CH2CHBr-CH3 + NH3 \rightarrow CH3-CH2-CH2-CHNH2-CH3

Ammonia ( NH3) is the reagent for this conversion. in this reaction a secondary alkylhalide is converted to an amine(primary). that is halide group is substituted with NH2 group. since NH3 is a nucleophile, this reaction is a nucleophlic substitution reaction.

2 types of substitution reactons are there. substitution nucleophilic unimolecular reaction (SN1) and substitution nucleophilic bimolecular reaction (SN2).

For primary and secondary alkyl halide (SN2) reaction occures and for tertiary alkyl halide (SN1) reaction occur.

(SN2) reaction

in this type reaction incoming nucleophile reacts with the alkyl halide .which cause carbon- halogen bond break and carbon- nucleophile bond formation ,both occur simultaneously in a single step.there is no intermediate formation.during this reaction configration of carbon under attack inverts.so there will be inversion of configuration occurs. the reaction occure in a single step through a transition state.the rate of reaction depends on concentration of alkyl halide and concentration of nucleophile .so it is a second order reaction.
