Answer #1

(e) AgNO3 Could not be used to separate Br^- and CO3^2- ions.

Because, both the ions form precipitate with silver nitrate. Hence it is not possible to separate one from other.

AgNO3 (aq.) + Br^- (aq.) ----------> AgBr (s) + NO3^- (aq.)

2 AgNO3 (aq.) + CO3^2- (aq.) ---------> Ag2CO3 (s) + 2 NO3^- (aq.)

* In remaining each only carbonate is precipitated leaving bromide ions in the solution state.
