Arcview is a powerful GIS tool that can display information (which resides locally or over a distributed network) , read spatial and tabular information from a variety of data formats, access external database, produce thematic maps and allow for a high degree of customization using avenue. Arcview provides the functionally for adding to an Arcmap documents table of these formats not directly associate with a spatial data set.
Arcview was a separate application, totally separate from arcInfo and sharing no common functionality or code. ArcView had its own native data formats - the shapefile, separate from the data format of ArcInfo ( the coverage ) .
Whereas ArcInfo coverage utilized a fully topological data model but the ArcView view shapefile was a simpler, nontopographical data structure.
ArcView was constructed , from the ground up, using an object oriented model. The ArcView scripting language (Avenue) was also object oriented.but ArcInfo's scripting language (AML) , which was procedural in nature.
. ArcGis server are considered RESTful , meaning that they adhere to the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style that power much of the modern web today. In the REST architectural , data and functionality are considered resources and are accessed through URLs such as how we will soon access the ArcGis server services using the ArcGis server REST API. The ArcGis REST API is a window into our ArcGis server services which then let us list, get , query , find , and perform other standardized , well defined operations against the services.
Common services of ArcGis server are as follows--
--Map services
--Features services
--Geo processing services
--Image services
