Hi there,

Psol = χsolvent * Psolvent , where

Psol - the vapor pressure of the solution
χsolvent - the mole fraction of the solvent
Psolvent - the vapor pressure of the pure solvent

moles biphenyl = 16.8 g / 154.2078 g/mol = 0.10894390556 mol

moles benzene = 31.3 g / 78.1118 g/mol = 0.40070770357 mol

χsolvent = [0.40070770357 mol / (0.40070770357 mol + 0.10894390556 mol)] = 0.78623847426

Psol = χsolvent * Psolvent = 0.78623847426 * 100.84 torr = 79.2842877451 ~ 79.3 torr

Biphenyl, C12H10, is a nonvolatile, nonionizing solute that is soluble in benzene, C.H. At 25 °C, the vapor pressure of pure
