Answer. (D) Receptors that specifically recognize and bind that particular messenger molecule. The extracellular signal molecule may be a growth factor, hormone, neurotransmitter and cytokine. Each extracellular matrix molecule has receptor present on the cell plasma membrane surface. When it binds with the receptor then it initiate a cascade of signal mechanism which further convey signal to the central part called nucleus which further transcribe the information.
