Answer #1

22.Ans:- Option (A) " 0.40 " is the correct answer.

Explanation :-

Given base dissociation constant (Kb) of CH3NH2 = 4.4 x 10-4

pKb CH3NH2 = - log Kb

= - log 4.4 x 10-4

= 3.36

Given, pH = 10.24

Using Henderson-Hasselbalch equation :

pOH = pKb + log [Salt] / [Base]

Because ,

pH + pOH = 14

pOH = 14 - pH

So,

14 - pH = 3.36 + log [CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2]

14 - 10.24 = 3.36 + log [CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2]

3.76 = 3.36 + log [CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2]

log [CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2] = 3.76 - 3.36

log [CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2] = 0.40

[CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2] = 100.40

[CH3NH3Cl] / [CH3NH2] = 2.51

Reciprocal on both the sides

[CH3NH2] / [CH3NH3Cl] = 1/2.51

[CH3NH2] / [CH3NH3Cl] = 0.40

Hence, ratio of CH3NH2 to CH3NH3Cl = 0.40

So, option (A) is the correct answer.
