in lab formula of hydrate, student A used 10g of a hydrate while student B used 20mg of same hydrate. what is the disadvantage in using large sample? what is the disadvantage in using smaller sample?

Solution :-

Using the larger amount of sample means it need more heat to evaporate all the water from the hydrate also it will longer time to evaporate all the water from the hydrate sample . So the disadvantage is it is time consuming and needs more energy so it is more costly.

using the very small amount of the sample has disadvantage that the mass difference may not be determined correctly. It is also difficult to weigh exactly 20 mg sample .

These are the disdvantages associated with using very large amount of sample or very small amount of sample.
