Answer #1

Pseudomona stutzeri derives more energy from NO3 reduction because of high anaerobic respiratory metabolism, in which nitrate is an electron acceptor but in E coli, the electron acceptor is oxygen and it performs respiratory metabolism at slower rate due to oxygen-repressible denitrification of NO3. Therefore, oxygen -mediated repressible activoty on NO3 reduction is lower for P stutzeri compared to denitrification activity of E coli in nitrate media mainly during semiaerobic conditions so that P stutzeri has high ATP synthesis
