The advance/ decline ratio is a popular indicator used in technical market analysis. The ratio compares the number of stocks that closed higher with the number of stocks that closed lower as compared to their previous day's closing prices. The ratio of 1.2 means that the numerator was higher than the denominator which means that the number of advanced stocks was higher than the number of declined stocks.
