The quantum dots are the artificial clysters of semiconductor atoms that they have the ability to confine the electron motion due to their small size. They have the ability to tune their band gap and controls the light absorbance and mission frequencies through the quantization of the energy levels.

Quantum dots are currently used for labeling the live biological material in vitro and in vivo in animals for the purpose of research. They are injected into the cells or attached to proteins in order to track, label or identify the specific biomolecule.
