Before we start, we need to clearly understand the two concepts. Industrial engineering is a profession of engineering that mainly deals with the optimization of complex processes, systems or organizations by developing, rectifying or improving and implementing integrated techniques on prevailing technologies. Industrial revolution can be defined as the time to time transition of technologies to their improved versions or simply manufacturing new processes or techniques.

Industrial engineers play a pivotal role in the fourth industrial revolution. Fourth industrial revolution is basically building on the third one and has the potential to greatly inmprove the global economy. Industrial engineers use their specialized knowledge and skills in the different fields of sciences and mathematics. With the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, they predict and evaluate the results obtained from the processes. This way they are also able to create new systems, processes or situations for the betterment of the industry of technology with proper coordination of labour, machines and raw materials and improve the quality and productivity of systems, physically or/and social.

Hence, industrial engineers is an important part of the 4th revolution as this will turn around the already intelligent techlonology world into a more improved one, eventually creating new ways of using the existing. Some of the technology that could be used are IoT, networking, robotics(very widely), cloud computing, etc. Each of those will have their own contribution to the industry 4.0.
