An estimated 20 to 50 million people sustain non-fatal accidents, many of which are injured because of their trauma. Injuries caused to individuals, families and nations as a whole by road transport cause significant economic damage. Such costs result from the cost of care and lost income of those who have been killed or disabled and family members who have to take their time off work or school in order to look after the wounded.
