Answer #1

Option C (Hex-1-ene) and option B (hexene) both are correct answers.

Explanation

Select the longest carbon chain in such a way that carbon containing double bond gets lowest position. If we number the carbon atoms from right hand side, the doubly bonded carbon gets the lowest position i. e. Number one. Now, assigning number 1 to the carbon on right hand side, we have to count carbon atoms in longest possible chain. Here, we have total 6 Carbons in a straight chain.

For writing the name of alkene ( compounds containing double bond), first of all write word root coressponding to 6 carbon atoms. The word rood for 6 carbons is hex. Next, step is to write position of double bond i. e. 1. Now, add suffix - ene- for alkene. The complete name is hex-1-ene.The numerals and alphabets are separated by hyphen(-).

When double bond is at first position, number 1 can be omitted from the name.Because if we don't write the position of double bond, it is considered at first position. Therefore, hexene means there is a double bond (as indicated by suffix) and position is one (since no position is specified, it is automatically considered as position 1). Though both options are correct, it is preferable to write position of double bond. So, option c is a better way to write IUPAC name of an alkene.

All other options are incorrect.

Option Aand E are incorrect as both are alkanes i. e. the structures don't contain any double bonds. Hexane is a six carbon alkane bonded by single bonds. Pentane is a five carbon alkane bonded by single bonds.

Option D is incorrect because Hex-5-ene is not possible. Hex-2-ene,Hex-3-ene,Hex-4-ene are possible in addition to Hex-1-ene.
