Answer #1

26) Thickest layer of keratinocytes is present in :-

(c) Palm of hands

Palms of the hands and soles of feet are made up of thick skin which have thicker layer of epidermis having keratinocytes.

The thin skin covers most of the body including the shin, face, forearm which have relatively thin layer of epidermis. So thickest layer of keratinocytes will not be present here.

Thus the correct answer is (c) Palm of hands.

27) The hormone which initiates migration of keratinocytes in the centre of the wound is :-

(d) Epidermal growth factor.

Keratinocytes are present in the epidermis. Epidermal growth factor promotes keratinocytes locomotion on collagen by increasing alpha-2 integrin. The migration of keratinocytes across the wound bed is an early and critical event in reepithelialization of cutaneous wounds.

The hypodermal, dermal and mitodermal growth factors donot help in migration of keratinocytes since they are not present in the epidermis which contains keratinocytes.

Thus the correct answer is (d) Epidermal growth factor.

28) Not a function of gland associated with skin -

(a) Red blood cell production.

Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow by the help of Erythropoietin. There is no role of skin in red blood cells production.

Thermoregulation, hair lubrication and earwax production are the functions of these glands.

Eccrine Sweat glands which produces sweat helps in thermoregulation.

Sebaceous gland is an exocrine gland that opens into hair follicles and secrete oily, waxy substance known as sebum which lubricates hair and skin.

Ceruminous gland which is specialized sweat gland produces earwax in the external auditory canal.

Since all the options are function of gland associated with skin except (a)

So the correct answer is (a) Red blood cell production.
