Miraculin is a glycoprotein used as artificial sweetener. Artificial sweeteners interact with taste receptors , thereby affecting calcium ion influx.The graph displays the effect of various artificial sweeteners(on x axis) on calcium ion influx into the cell in the presence or absence of miraculin.It shows that when a artificial sweetener is combined with miraculin, it causes statistically significant reduction in calcium ion influx into the cell.Thus combination of any artificial sweetener such as saccharin or NCL with miraculin strongly reduces calcium ion influx into the cell.
