Answer #1

x1 = 91, x2 = 88.452, s1 = 10.354, s2 = 10.064, n1 = n2 = 11

H0: µ1 = µ2

H1: µ1 > µ2

Test statistic =

[(x1 - x2)-(µ12)] / [((s12(n1-1) + s22(n2-1))/(n1+n2-2))^0.5*(1/n1+1/n2)^0.5]

= ((91-88.452)-0)/((((10.354*10.354*10)+(10.064*10.064*11))/(11+11-2))^0.5*(1/11+1/11)^0.5)

= 0.57

Degrees of freedom: df = n1+n2-2 = 11+11-2 = 20

p-value (Using Excel function T.DIST.RT(test statistic, df)) = T.DIST.RT(0.57,20) = 0.288

Do not reject H0, insufficient evidence.
