Company ABC is restructuring its production department. Although the team members of your existing team are cohesive, your supervisor has decided to replace six of your ten subordinates by seven new recruits. Even though these seven new recruits possess rather long experience in production in the industry, they are new to your organization and your team. In other words, you expect that your new team will have to go through the different stages of team development all over again.

1) Critically evaluate the team development stages that your new team will most likely experience after the six existing team members left and the seven new recruits join the team.

2) You find that team members tend to be attracted to each other after they have gone through earlier stages of team development. You want your eleven subordinates in the new team to become cohesive like your original team. Identify and explain what factors influence team cohesiveness so that you understand how to make the new members more cohesive.

Answer:

1)

Team development depends on the attitude and behaviour of all the team members.Definitely it takes some time for the team members to mingle with the newly joined ones.Since the new recruits are experienced, there is no need to train them again. So,in order to have a healthy relationship with them they must participate in every element they are working on.Most importantly, team work is more needed.Sharing of work reduces wastage of time and makes everything comfortable.Individual stress becomes less which ultimately gives a healthy time to share feelings and thoughts. This makes developing relationships with co-workers.And also we can see the number of new recruits are more compared to existing ones. This might be a challenge for existing ones to coordinate with them. The main reason is,new recruits will form a good relationship among themselves since all are new to the organization. In order to have a cohesive bonding with them, the existing team members should involve in every aspect and should try to spend more time with them.In their meeting.they should share their experiences in their work in their previous organization and culture over there. They have to fetch time to discuss in groups and catching up each other. One more important thing is,if there is a good personal relationship between them.it also helps professionally. In order to have more strong bonding, some humourous moments between them can also be allowed sometimes. The existing team members should feel the new recruits as their left employees and move on.One to one meetings should be conducted frequently.

2)

There is no solution for this problem except accepting the change.Since we can't bring back the left employees,we need to accept that we should work with new recruits the rest of life.Since the difference between them impacts the working environment, workers should adjust and adapt the culture. And also situations should be created in such a way that all the employees should work in groups and spend more time.Cohesiveness only comes.when people spend more time together. And also tasks should be assigned to groups to work in collaboration rather than working individually.Frequent meetings and assignments should be conducted to work as team.Management should assign the work in such a way that the work should be completed only by the active participation of everyone.Among newly joined 7 employees in the organization every two new recruits should be assigned to work with each existing employees. This makes all the employees engage at same place and buildup relation. To be more transparent and individual respect brings more cohesiveness. One emploee should respect others decision and trust him.Sharing personal information is not at all accepted.Speaking gossips should be avoided.
