How to communicate an impending company-wide layoff Wide layoffs need a painstaking plan ahead of time in view of the fact that it will affect people’s lives especially their finances. The best channel to convey this type of communication is a vital part to avoid conflicts and legal processes that might occur. According to Daft (2016), research has attempted to explain how leaders select communication channels to enhance communication effectiveness and that studies have found out that channels differ in their capacity to convey the information. In the case of a wide layoff, sending an honest memo to give them an idea of what is coming to their job, followed by a town hall meeting to answer their questions, and offer outplacement or referrals might be helpful for them. They need to hear it from the leader to avoid rumors that might spread and will often assume the worst. The communication should go along with passion and so much understanding as to the effect of the layoff. Reference: Daft, R. L. (2016). The leadership experience (7th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning. To address company picnics A company memo addressing all employees for the picnics would be great as it is to consider that team building is essential in every organization or company. It gives the leaders and members a chance to communicate informally and express their thoughts outside the work and it is much easier to express thoughts and ideas outside the working place than inside the office. It is considered to be one of the forming stages of development or some period of orientation and getting acquainted more between leaders and members to form a great bond to have a functional team as claimed by Daft (2016). Reference: Daft, R. L. (2016). The leadership experience (7th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning. Channels to convey new corporate quality goals that will require significant changes and how subordinates perform their tasks. Written communication and small group session talk to employees about a new policy are the best ways to convey new goals that will require changes, and how subordinates perform their task as it is an official and a permanent record is required according to Daft (2016). He also added that although leaders use multiple channels to convey the new idea, social media is also needed to make sure that everyone gets the information. It is a new policy and that it is crucial that all employees affected must be well-informed and knowledgeable. Reference: Daft, R. L. (2016). The leadership experience (7th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning. Communicating nonverbally with your team to create a sense of trust and teamwork Non-verbal communication is defined by Daft (2016) as the messages transmitted through actions, behavior, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Every day we use non-verbal communication that we might not aware of it. Just simple eye contact, head gestures, and tone of our voice can imply the feelings we have. Leaders can communicate nonverbally to create trust by doing their job right and showing their associates the right way without telling them. It’s that action that will speak louder than the word. The leaders’ actions and behavior will create trust and cooperation to build the goal. Thank you, Marlyn

Ans- The discussion post is about communication at different levels in the workplace and it has been written so well putting up everything in a brief manner and indeed when there is wide lay off of employees everything should be planned carefully ahead of time so that there does not exist any conflict afterwards. Sending an honest memo to give them an idea about what is coming to their job followed by a town hall meeting helps a lot and offering them outplacement or referrals might be very much helpful to the employees especially to those for whom a job is very important because their financial condition is not good.

Going out for a picnic from the office really strengthens the bond between members and leaders as it gives them the chance to communicate informally and it fosters the team building which is necessary for every company. When we communicate informally we feel good and our fear also goes out and so our relationships with our co workers and superiors improves thus creating a good bond.

The discussion on choosing the correct channel to convey the official messages has also been written well and it is true that a written communication and a small group session talk to employees about a new policy are the best ways to convey new goals that will require changes  and even social media is needed to make sure that everyone gets the information and a message spreads faster in social media as we all use it frequently and the written communication everything can be read out again and again so as to clarify ourselves.

The discussion on how nonverbal communication creates a sense of trust and teamwork has also been discussed well and indeed leaders can communicate nonverbally to create trust by doing their job right and showing their associates the right without telling them and yes it will be true that action will speak louder than words.
