The five characteristics of a good KM measurement system are-
1- It should be Customizable -
The knowledge management measurement system should be customizable because rigidity in system can reduce the chance of changes in future which affect the performance of KM system in the organization.
for example- if your knowledge management system does support only two or three file extensions but your employees want to add or store files in another format then the system should be customizable that it can be add features to add more file extensions.
2-Ease of Use for Fast Adoption and Comfort-
the system should be easy to use means user do not have to struggle to know the use of the KM system in the organization. The system which is easy to use shows that KM is effective because it takes less time and energy and reduce frustration of employees. for example-
If employee operate a software which has difficult functions and no idea how to run then either employee will avoid that program or get frustrated while putting all his energy in that system.
3-Collaborative system-
The best knowledge management systems will include the ability to collaborate with co-workers and managers for continual learning and the best application of the knowledge available.
The system can include options for collaborating online or in person. For example, it may offer opportunities to create presentations for group learning or for publishing ideas in a company newsletter.
4-Provide the right and accurate information to management-
It is one of the main characteristics of KM measurement system because management decisions are based on data and information and if information is not accurate then decision making is bad and cause loss to business so KM system helps to provide the accurate and right information to management.
5-KM measurement system is continuous system -
It is a continuous process which requires constant creation of new skills and capabilities and improvement of existing ones. for example- if current system or program is outdated in the organization then new updates are taken to improve the system to learn and develop more .
