Team- group of people and Building - to develop.So,the process of developing or making a group of people to work together as a team to achieve the desired goal is known as team-building process.
Team-building is done to increase the motivation of different people as well as completion of work given.
Five stages of team building are: forming,storming,norming, performing and adjourning explained below-
Forming-means to form( start to develop)_This is the initial stage of team-building process where the team just started to develop.The people comes together to form a team.So it is the orientation phase where all of them have different ideas for the work.They come together with different feelings and attitudes towards work.So,in this stage they are learning what to do.
Storming- means disturbance in the work due to strong clashes between their different attitudes and opinions related to their work.This is the stage where most of the clashes happen which need to be supported by their higher authority to understand what is required to achieve the completion of work.
Norming- means 'adjust'. In this stage,the team is well clear and understood about each other .They confidently know what is required to do work and share their ideas in a smart and perfect way with each other and understands each others opinions related to work.
Performing- means to work or perform. In this stage, the team converts their work in an active or performing mode.The stage where there is unity and full understanding between each other.The team runs smoothly to complete their work.
Adjourning- means rest or completion.This is the final stage of team-building process where the work is fully done.This is the important stage of team building because this stage will decide the overall achievement of the work done.
