For any complex project , it is important to accomplish project objectives along with meeting the stakeholders’ expectations. The stakeholders are the group of individuals who are responsible for the project success or failure. Even if the projects deliverables and objectives are met, if the key stakeholders are not satisfied then it becomes as disaster. The external stakeholders for a complex pharmacy project are government, contractors or subcontractors, suppliers or external customers. Similarly, internal stakeholder are top managers, project team members, internal customers, etc. When dealing with internal stakeholders it becomes important to have a in depth project plan to be developed along with the major milestones to be achieved and most importantly to have all the required approvals.
Keep all of them informed about the project risks and potential impacts. Similarly, for the external stakeholders, it is important to understand the rules and regulations, managing contractors or suppliers, avoiding any conflicting interests, etc. As all the stakeholders are different in nature, then it becomes important for a project manager to always focus on three aspects of the complex project, such as communication, decision making and negotiations. It is important to make use of the common language to avoid any barriers among various stakeholders. The project complexity get influenced by the amount of investment each stakeholder does.
