Answer #1

a) H_2CO_3(aq) + H_2O(l) ---> H_3O^+ + HCO_3^-

Acid = H2CO3

Base = H20

Conjugate Base = HCO3(-)

Conjugate Acid = H3O+

conjugate acid/base pairs = H3O+/H20

b) CH_3NH_2(aq) + H_2O(l) ---> CH_3NH_3^+ + HO^-

Acid = H2O

Base = CH3NH2

Conjugate Base = OH(-)

Conjugate Acid = CH3NH3+

conjugate acid/base pairs = CH3NH3+/CH3NH2

c)CH_3COOH(aq) + H_2O(l) ---> H_3O^+ + CH_3COO^-(aq)

Acid = CH3COOH

Base = H20

Conjugate Base = CH3COO(-)

Conjugate Acid = H3O+

conjugate acid/base pairs = H3O+/H20
