Answer #1

The Matrix approach to manage projects involves dual reporting of the employees to the functional manager as well as the project manager. This kind of approach is used when complex projects are being driven by an organization which requires significant coordination between various functions such as marketing, finance, operations etc as well as between the project manager and the team working under him/her to accomplish project goals and deadlines.

The advantages of Matrix approach are that it drives the best possible output and performance from the employees by allowing them to work on complex KPIs and organizational goals. Also the organization benefits through such approach by achieving long term organizational success and efficieny. However the disadvantages of Matirx approach are that it sometimes takes a toll on the employees due to dual reporting and a lot of follow up from the managers which can be hectic for them. Also it can lead to employee demotivation and affect the employee's work life balance in the long run which must be addressed by the organization.
