Answer #1
  • From a scientific perspective, all homosexual behavior is biological. That’s a truism, of course. Same-sex attraction, like all behaviors and cognition, requires a functioning nervous system. There are no homosexual umbrellas.
  • Furthermore, much but not all same-same sex attraction is probably based in genetics or epigenetics, with predispositions established before birth.
  • Far from being a “sin against nature,” homosexuality is more natural than the sexual abstinence imposed by many human cultures, and more natural than their many artifacts.
  • Homosexual behavior is ubiquitous throughout the animal kingdom. It occurs in numerous species from worms to primates, including the Utah state bird, the seagull.
  • Bonobos (previously called pygmy chimpanzees) are one of human’s closest cousins, sharing nearly 99 percent of our DNA.
  • The increase in awareness about homosexuality, people reading more about it,being more accepting about it and considering it a normal preference of an individual is making it less of a social problem.
  • More freedom of speech and talking about the topic, influencing people positively and overcoming their confusions about homosexuality,is helping people talk more openly and embrace it now.
  • Sociologists have highlighted several factors that might help explain the change in public opinion. Increases in educational attainment and personal contact with homosexuals are part of the explanation, because both education and personal contact are positively associated with tolerance for homosexuality.
  • The social imagination is a collective process of cultural meaning-making, whose product (the social imaginary) provides the cultural basis for implicit schemas, categories, and prototypes, which individuals use in future cognition and action.
  • The social imagination of homosexuality shapes key aspects of individuals’ worldviews regarding homosexuality, including their beliefs, attitudes, moral judgments, and policy preferences.
  • The rapid increase in support for same-sex marriage in the United States today must be interpreted in light of changes in the deep structures of American culture, which cause Americans to imagine homosexuality differently than they did three decades ago.
  • Liberal support for same-sex marriage has been partially premised on the logic that homosexuals constitute a protected class, like race, that would allow the extension of equal protection and nondiscrimination laws to them.
