3. ABO blood groups in humans is an example of codominance. Suppose an individual with type O blood mates with an individual that is heterozygous for type A blood. What are the expected genotypic and phenotypic ratios of their offspring? What percentage of their offspring will have type O blood?

Out of the two partners

One has O blood group, which means he is OO. The gametes would be O

Second is heterozygous for A blood group, which means he is AO. The gametes would be A and O

The cross between them would be

A O
O AO (A blood group) OO (O blood group)

This shows the 1/2 of offsprings have AO (A blood group) other 1/2 have OO (O blood group).

This gives the same phenotypic and genotypic ratio of 1:1.

1 out of 2 offsprings have O blood group. Which is 1/2 of total offsprings possible. This means 50% of total offsprings have O blood type.
