Male parent: Blood type B; his mother type O

  1. IBI0
  2. IBIB
  3. I0I0
  4. IBIA
  5. IAI0
  1. With regard to the ABO blood types in humans, determine the genotype of the female parent shown here:

Female parent: Blood type A; her father type B

  1. IBI0
  2. IBIB
  3. I0I0
  4. IBIA
  5. IAI0
  1. ( 2 Points) Predict the blood types of the offspring that this couple may have (one or more answers) -
  1. IBI0
  2. IBIB
  3. I0I0
  4. IBIA
  5. IAI0

Answer #1

Answer:

1).

a). IBIO

B type blood has two types of genotypes, IBIB or IBIO. Male got an allele IO from his mother and father would have contributed IB allele. Therefore the genotype of male is IBIO.

2).

e). IAIO

A type blood has two types of genotypes, IAIA or IAIO. The female got an allele IO from her father and mother would have contributed IA allele. Therefore the genotype of male is IAIO.

3).

IBIO x IAIO ---Parents

IA

IO

IB

IAIB (AB type)

IBIO (B type)

IO

IAIO (A type)

IOIO (O type)

AB type = ¼ or 25%

A type = ¼ or 25%

B type = ¼ or 25%

O type = ¼ or 25%

ABO BLOOD TYPE The ABO blood groups in humans are determined by multiple alleles. A single gene can exist in any of three allelic forms: 14, Bor i. This inheritance of the ABO blood type displays codominance as well as complete dominance. The two codominant genes A and B code for production of antigen A and antigen B on the surface of red blood cells, and are both completely dominant to the recessive allele i.
