Long-term care(LTC) helps to meet various needs of people relating to chronic illness or disability mainly to those who cannot take care of themselves for long periods. It is mainly focused on individualized and coordinated services that maximize patients' quality of life, promote independence and meet patients' needs over a period of time. Services include feeding, dressing, using the bathroom. Long-term care consumers are mainly adults or person with disability.
With the passage of time the families are becoming more nuclear. The parents and the son/daughter lives separately once they become independent. With increase in LTC the fear of living alone mainly for the adults could be addressed.
LTC is a place where people from many different backgrounds like with various religious affiliations, gender and , sexual orientations, financial statuses, and abilities opt for the care as well as work there. The choice of care depends on the financial status, the kind of care they need, changing financial status and changing need of care.
Two main concerns of older adults are- loss of independence and lack of money. Accountable Health Community(ACHs) helps in solving regional health problems at local level. Opting for these LTCs the senior citizens can somewhat reduce these risks and fears.
