Yes, it is good idea to appoint her as the project manager. As she will have good knowledge of how to procure, maintain, minimize risks, better budget planning, minimizing the cost, profit maximization, disclosure of financial statements and running a smooth financial software etc. So, she will better mange the finance as well as other aspects of project planning and progress with the help of their team members in the project team.

It might be possible that many people say that she has generally knowledge of finical domain, the people of her own domain might make pressure on her for claiming more benefits, and she might not aware with the challenges of project initiation, planning, execution/implementation and clean up phases. It might be a case the core functional activity related to finance get affected as she will have to spent a lot of time for successful implementation of the project work .

The given case study resembles the basic project management because it is a unique process as the program management is the management of similar objective projects grouped together. Another aspect that clears it as basic project management is that it is a shorter duration project and the main goal is to accomplish the given unique objective not the regular ongoing projects.
