Troy was 8 when he and his twin sister snuck into the kitchen pantry and stole a box of yummy mini Cinnamon Buns. Troy and his sister became very ill later that evening and Troy recalls vomiting out the cinnamon buns he had eaten. For the next 10 years he did not touch cinnamon buns or anything with a strong cinnamon flavour. Only now at the age of 20 is he slightly warming up to the flavour again. Using classical conditioning (the US, NS, CS, UR, and CR) explain what happened in Troy’s case.
In this, Troy overate the mini Cinnamon buns (unconditioned stimulus), which lead him to fall sick (unconditioned response). However, Troy learned to associate the buns themselves (initially the neutral stimulus) to vomiting. Thus, the sight or thought of Cinnamon buns (now the conditioned stimulus) induced aversive feelings (conditioned response) in Troy.
