(a) The magnitude of the acceleration while in free fall is equal to g=9.8 m/s2 at all times independent of initial velocity. So acceleration of the rock will be equal to g.

(b) The magnitude of the acceleration of the rock is still equal to g, because the rock is still in free fall (just before hittin the water). So the acceleration of the rock will be equal to g.
