here it is said that the material is perfectly plastic so there is no strain hardening is taking place, so stress-strain curve in the plastic region is a straight line.

a)Stress srain curve is linear in elastic region and straight line in plastic region since there is no strain hardening effect.

b)here sigma z iszero, but due to poisons effect there is reduction in thickness.
