Answer #1

When put in water The negative charges in the phosphate groups in the DNA backbone repel each other. In pure water, this will disrupt the DNA moleculein distilled water. Tere is nothing in the water for the DNA to be attracted to and its negative charges force it apart.

Enter your answer in the provided box. Given two complementary strands of DNA containing 1.01 X 102 base pairs each, calculate the ratio of two separate strands to hydrogen-bonded double helix in solution at 3.49 x 10² K. (Hint: The formula for calculating this ratio is e-SE/RT, where AE is the energy difference between hydrogen-bonded double-strand DNAs and single-strand DNAs and R is the gas constant.) Question 1 1 pts Why is it important for DNA to have complementary base pairing? O Complementary base pairing allows base pairs to be packed in the most energetically favorable arrangement inside of the double helix structure. O Complementary base pairing will pair a purine with a purine, which are a similar width, thus they are able to hold the sugar-phosphate backbone an equal distance apart along the DNA molecule o Complementary base pairing is only important for maintaining the...

“Unlike what happens in DNA replication, where both strands are copied, only one of the two strands is transcribed into mRNA. The DNA strand that contains the gene is sometimes called the sense strand, or coding strand, and the DNA strand that gets transcribed to give RNA is called the antisense strand, or noncoding strand. Because the sense strand and the antisense strand are complementary, and because the DNA antisense strand and the newly formed RNA strand are also complementary,...
