A study conducted by lync. Owens a master in the field of commmunication, quantitatively analyzes the content of network news programs in 2005. She hypothesizes that incognizant racism or tendency for journalists to report on minority topics differently than white topics is to blame for the way network news programs deliver coverage and choose sources.

Paterns of racial inclusion and exclusion could reinforce an image of minorities as a group whose identities knowledge and interests are both narrower and different from whites.

At first sight women are adequately represented as newscasters in most countries . Various studies in several countries however ahow that women are indeed adequetly represented as anchors but not as reporters , correspondents of national or local television news and that addotionally female newscasters are mostly ignored when it comes to prestigious news items (ziegler and white) this could be due to the fact that chief editors generally assume that recipients believe male newscasters are more credible.

Existing research about the influence of newscasters gender on preceived credibility yields quite inconsistent results is moatly of oldet date and as is the case with most crediability research is typically done in the united states.

The results of this study were first reported in simo virtamen's ph.d dissertation both authors contributed equally to this paper. Wales and Melbourne university for access to research facilities used while preparing this paper.
