Magnetic properties (diamagnetic or paramagnetic behavior) of different chemicals are predicted b... Magnetic properties (diamagnetic or paramagnetic behavior) of different chemicals are predicted based on the absence of presence of unpaired electrons. For diatomic covalent species, the MO theory should be used. For polyatomic molecules and molecular ions, Lewis structures should be used. For atomic ions and ionic solids that include them, electronic configurations should be used. Label each of the following species as diamagnetic or paramagnetic and indicate if it is attracted to magnet of repelled from it. Support your assignments by MO diagrams, electronic configurations, or Lewis structures as needed.

a) NaCl(s) [note that solid NaCl is made of ions, not of diatomic molecules]

b) BC+ (in gas)

c) Mn3(PO4)2(s)

A Review Constants Periodic Table Learning Goal: To use electron configuration to explain magnetic behavior. Electron configuration The magnetic behavior of an atom or ion depends on its electron configuration. An important property that results from the electron configuration of an atom or an ion is behavior in the presence of an external magnetic field. Due to the random orientations of electron spins most materials have no permanent magnetic effect without an external magnetic field. Part A Select the correct...

please I need help with the data sheet INTRODUCTION The chemical and physical properties of substances are influenced by the way in which valence electrons are distributed and by the three-dimensional shape of the molecule or ion. X- ray and neutron diffraction, infrared, Raman and microwave absorption spectroscopy, as well as dipole moment measurements are used to ascertain the three-dimensional structure of a substance. Thus, techniques are available which can identify the geometry of substances. Results of these measurements generally...
